“Hope, we do have hope!” We heard this phrase over and over again at the end of the Assembly. In Lyon, France, the 13th CEC Assembly came to an end on the 21st of July 2009 and the participants left taking home with them the excitement and hope-filled spirit and atmosphere they experienced at the Assembly.

As organizers, it is now time for us to say “Thank you!”  Thank you to all who made this Assembly possible and to all who will follow up on the results of the Lyon Assembly back in their home churches.

Firstly, we wish to thank the CEC Member Churches for all their support and the delegates who prepared themselves so well for the Assembly and came to Lyon ready to contribute and actively participate.

We thank all the participants: delegated representatives, representatives, observers and advisors for their contributions and support.

Our thanks to all the delegates who served on the Assembly Committees whose work was long and hard and very much appreciated.

To all the speakers who took the time to give us historical reflections and topical messages, we say thank you. What was said will live on in our hearts and minds.

To our all our guests we want you to know how we value your contributions both past and present and appreciated your willingness to join in the celebration for the 50 years of CEC and the work of this Assembly.

To the entire CEC staff, we say thanks for all the great work and continued support.

We also want to place on record the indispensable contribution which was made to the realization of the 13th CEC Assembly by so many individuals who came to work alongside the regular staff of CEC and CCME. Their contribution to the whole process was magnificent and we owe them a great debt of thanks.

To the stewards who brought their willingness to work hard and joyful spirits to all areas of the Assembly we are deeply indebted. May you all go on to contribute your energies and talents to the greater future of the ecumenical movement.

We were helped in so many essential ways by the Local Committee and those from the local community who volunteered to ensure the smooth running of practical aspects of the assembly. Thank you for your service.

We were so warmly welcomed by all the churches in Lyon and the CEC member churches in France.

For the functioning of the Assembly itself there were many areas in which the Assembly could not have done its work without the tremendous help of the co-opted staff in the technical set-ups and service, the finance office, the welcome desk, the documentation office, the media operation, the floor management, the worship committee, the youth choir, the youth programmes, and the 50 years of CEC celebration. For all of this we are indebted and grateful to the World Council of Churches, the Lutheran World Federation, the Evangelical Church in Germany (EKD), the Church of Sweden, the British Methodist Church, the Evangelical Lutheran Church of France, the French Protestant Federation. European Christian Environmental Network (ECEN), YMCA Europe, Ecumenical Youth Council in Europe (EYCE), Syndesmos, WSCF-Europe, and Rousse et Robinson.

The communication of and for the Assembly could not have been done without the hard work of the Communication Department and the co-opted staff, writers, photographers and journalists who did a tremendous work keeping everyone updated through the Assembly website, blogs, tweets, newletters, and press releases.

To all those interpreters who make sure the speakers were understood in three languages, to the minute takers who recorded everything we said for posterity, and to the legal advisors who made sure that all we did was in full accordance with best legal practices, we say thank you indeed.

We also want to thank the Moderators who, with professionalism, patience and humour, carried us faithfully throughout the programme.

Words of thanks cannot be enough to express our appreciation for the tremendous work which everyone carried out in Lyon.  Again we place on record by this public acknowledgement of their role, our deep appreciation for all they achieved in service of the 13th CEC Assembly.
