We will be organising a preparatory meeting for young delegates and delegated representatives at the 13th Assembly.  The meeting will be planned and run by members of our Associated Youth Organisations (EYCE, WSCF-Europe, YMCA-Europe and Syndesmos), coordinated by Annie Osborne, and will aim to familiarise these young people with the work of CEC, the theme of the Assembly, and their role in detail.

The meeting will take place at the Centre Jean Bosco in Lyon, France, from May 29th until June 2nd, 2009.

There will then be six weeks after the meeting until the Assembly itself, during which we hope that these young people will be able to use what they have learned and discussed during the training meeting, to have further exchanges within their own churches and organisations, to reflect further for themselves, and so bring fresh ideas back with them in July.

The meeting will aim to:

  • Introduce CEC and the work of its Associated Youth Organisations
  • Encourage the young people to share experiences from their different cultural and denominational backgrounds, and to develop creative visions for the future of the Ecumenical Movement in Europe, and the role of the youth in that.
  • Explain their role as delegates at the Assembly and ensure a full understanding of how the Assembly will take place at a practical and constitutional level.
  • Discuss the theme of the Assembly, ‘Called to One Hope in Christ’ and  the working priorities of CEC for the next six years
  • Prepare a presentation to the Assembly from the youth (if desired)
  • Equip participants with the necessary tools to engage actively after the assembly in further intercultural and ecumenical activities in Europe.
  • And allow them time to get to know one another before the Assembly.

Full details of the meeting will be sent to young Assembly participants during March. Should you have any queries or suggestions, please contact the Youth Programmes Coordinator, oam[at]cec-kek.org.
